Combat path from 2014 to today
Formation of the brigade
In December 2014, the formation of the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade began in Bakhmut, based on experienced soldiers from other combat units.
Svitlodarsk salient
Defence of positions on the Svitlodarsk salient, battles in the areas of Zaitseve and Maiorsk.
Liberation of settlements
Soldiers of the brigade took part in the liberation of Hladove and Travneve in the Donetsk region.
Successful raids
A series of successful operations was carried out to destroy enemy positions, equipment and personnel.
Rotation and restoration of combat capability
After completing tasks in the combat zone, the brigade restored its combat capability: personnel training, unit cohesion and reserve preparation.
Honorary title
The brigade was given the honorary title of Hetman Ivan Mazepa.
Capability development
Mastering new types of weapons and equipment, developing aerial reconnaissance and communications units, and improving the soldier training system.
Full-scale invasion
With the start of the full-scale invasion, the brigade was among the first to engage in battle, defending Lysychansk and Sievierodonetsk and holding the Bakhmut direction.
Presidential distinction
For heroism and dedication during combat operations, the unit was awarded the honorary distinction “For Courage and Bravery”.
Defence of the eastern borders
The brigade continued to hold back the enemy offensive in the hottest directions, carrying out defensive and counter-assault tasks.
War of technology
Development of UAV, electronic warfare and aerial reconnaissance units, introduction of new tactics and exchange of experience with comrades.
Defending Ukraine
The brigade remains a threat to the enemy on the front lines and continues to defend Ukraine.
We honour fallen comrades
Every soldier of the brigade who gave their life for Ukraine remains in the ranks forever — in the memory of comrades, in the names of units and in the hearts of families.
The brigade supports the families of fallen and deceased soldiers, helps with payments and benefits, involves them in veteran events and honours the memory of the fallen together with communities.
Symbols and spirit of the brigade
- The brigade’s shoulder patch is a symbol of belonging to the unit, worn with honour.
- The honorary title of Hetman Ivan Mazepa is a reminder of the struggle for independence.
- The motto “GOD LOVES THE INFANTRY” is the principle by which the brigade lives.
- Brotherhood: support, mutual aid and care for each other’s families.
